A Collaborative Approach to Patient Care

The Komer Brain Science Institute partners with referring healthcare professionals to provide comprehensive medical assessment for patients experiencing persistent symptoms following concussion or traumatic brain injury. Our goal is to complement—not replace—the ongoing care provided by the patient's primary healthcare team.

Patients Who May Benefit

A referral may be appropriate for patients experiencing persistent symptoms following sports-related concussion, motor vehicle collisions, workplace injuries, falls, recreational injuries, repetitive head trauma, or other traumatic brain injuries. Patients may present with ongoing concerns involving cognition, memory, fatigue, sleep, mood, hormonal health, balance, vision, headaches, reduced physical performance, or delayed recovery.

Comprehensive Medical Assessment

Each patient receives an individualized medical assessment based on clinical history, symptom review, previous investigations, medical history, current medications, functional limitations, and recovery progress. Additional investigations are recommended only when clinically appropriate.

Areas Considered During Assessment

Assessment may include consideration of brain function, hormonal health, sleep, vision, balance, physical conditioning, nutrition, emotional well-being, and general medical health, depending on the patient's presentation.

Collaborative Care

The Komer Brain Science Institute values collaboration with family physicians, nurse practitioners, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, vision specialists, neuropsychologists, mental health professionals, and other members of the patient's healthcare team.

Referral Process

  1. Complete your referral.
  2. Include relevant consultation notes and investigations when available.
  3. Our office reviews the referral.
  4. The patient is contacted regarding scheduling.
  5. Assessment findings and recommendations are communicated back to the referring healthcare provider, as appropriate.

Our Philosophy

Every patient deserves careful listening, comprehensive assessment, evidence-informed medical care, individualized recommendations, collaborative healthcare, and respectful communication.
